Episode 709: "Christian Rock Hard"

Episode description & image from SPS:
Cartman, Butters and Token rocket to the top of the Christian rock charts with their own messages of faith in an all-new episode, entitled “Christian Rock Hard.” When the other boys kick Cartman out of their band, Cartman pulls his own group together to make music for Jesus. Meanwhile, Stan, Kyle and Kenny are arrested for downloading music from the Internet. (Title subject to change.)

I received an e-mail from the author of this article, Why We're Not Losing the Culture Wars Anymore, on City Journal. There's a whole big ol' long section concerning South Park. I have to admit, though, that I only skimmed it ... because, well, my attention span is not very long. I'll probaly go back and actually read it ...probably.

We know you've all been biting your nails waiting to see what we had to say about the last episode, "South Park Is Gay".
Girly says:
That episode was so GAY! Had to be said, sorry. I was actually expecting something quite different. My favorite part of this episode was the renderings of the Queer Eye guys. They were dead on! I also really enjoyed Mr. Garrison trying to pick up the guys at the bar and his conversation with Chef. The crab people plot twist threw me off, which I suppose was it's purpose. I was glad to see Mr. Slave return although, I hope they don't continue to give him the same line over and over. "Jesuth Christh" can only be funny so many times, no matter how many different ways you say it. Overall, I really liked the episode and I was happy to have South Park back. Now, let's all go back to my hizzle fizizzle and pound Mr. Slaves hot little ass.

Zuzu says:
I'm going to have to watch this one again a couple of times. The first time through was just kind of ... bleh. I guess I was all hyped up and expecting something huge and amazing. You know, if Matt & Trey didn't take like 18 months off at a time to go sit on their lazy asses instead of making South Park episodes, this wouldn't happen. (That's sarcasm, people, just in case you didn't catch it.) It had it's moments - I must say I was overly excited to see Kyle's hair - but overall I'm left with a sense of "was that it?" that I think will be remedied by a few more viewings.
On to the spam! Sorry, just one helping today - you're probably still full from yesterday anyway.

I seem to remember hearing about these political ads, which are supposedly similar to South Park in animation style, causing some controversy. I'm too lazy to go look it up in the news archives, though. :P Read more about them at PressofAtlanticCity.com. I'm quite amused by the mancrush allegations.

I slack off on spam duty for a few days and look what happens!

Scott Johnson of the Anchorage Daily News references "South Park" in his article on David Blaine.

KnoxNews.com pits Eric Cartman against ... Spiderman? in a Grudge Match. Very amusing.

"South Park" is also referenced in this Washington Post review of the movie Radio:
It leaves one with the sinking feeling that the caustic cartoon "South Park," with its adolescent gibes at the kid in the wheelchair, does better social analysis than Hollywood at its most painfully sincere. "South Park" is at least honest about the discomfort that people with disabilities may cause the morally undeveloped (children and bigots). Films such as "Radio" invite us to feel good for not thinking and behaving like an 8-year-old.
GoMemphis.com has a great feature on Isaac Hayes that includes quite a bit of discussion on Chef. Here's a sample of Hayes talking about recording "Chocolate Salty Balls":
I wasn't going to do it, but I looked out of the studio and saw all the technicians in the control room cracking up, (and I decided) I should. And it was huge.
Tech Central Station features an article by David E. Bernstein dealing with our sue-happy society. The title comes directly from the "Sexual Harrassment Panda" episode of "South Park".

I love it when people publish misinformation. Isn't "misinformation" in and of itself misinformation? Why do I suddenly feel like I'm on "Coffee Talk"? Nevermind, back to the spam: The Nashville City Paper online contained this blurb:
South Park (Wednesdays, Comedy Central, 9 p.m.) has lasted six seasons, even as its creators have maintained they are tired of the weekly series grind. There are only eight new episodes planned for the eighth year, which begins with tonight’s first installment.
Do yourself a favor and read this editorial about Barbra Streisand from Scotsman.com. It's very funny; here's an excerpt:
The adult animations of South Park portrayed her as a power-crazed Godzilla monster who crushes everything in her path until slain by the lead singer of The Cure. Yet no one parodies Streisand better than Barbra herself.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREY!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I'm a bad, bad mormon. The day almost passed without a birthday tribute to Trey. :(

Trey gets 34 spankings today. Anyone want to volunteer? I think our wonderful board-mistress, Ceri should get the honors for creating the lovely imagery to the left.

Two TV appearances in a week! Yay!

Matt and Trey will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live again on Monday, October 20th. Thanks to Ryan for the heads up.

8:46? Girly's much more precise than I am. ;)

And what's this? Nobby gets mentioned two days in a row? Well, sure, because I came home and visited Fudge, Packer?, our wonderful message board, run by the equally wonderful Ceri, and read a Nobby post. It pointed me in the direction of our good friend Will's site, the Scriptorium. Will found a post on the Finger Bang forum regarding a VH1 show called "VH1 Goes Inside".

This, my friends, is why I sometimes don't hate the Internet. Were you paying attention? There will be a quiz at the end of this update.

Anyway, here's the deal: according to Robert at the aforementioned Finger Bang forum, the show "VH1 Goes Inside: South Park" is an hour long special airing this Friday the 17th at 12, 6, 9, and 11:30 PM, then it replays on Saturday the 18th at 11 AM and 4 and 11 PM. According to Yahoo News, the episode premieres at 9PM Eastern. Click hmyeah to read a little bit about the episode, and click nyeaw for three video clips ... none of which I could get to play on my computer. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

Rockin' Good News! Oh, and that quiz? I'm in such a good mood, I'll let it slide this time. ;)

I've finished updating the Eye Candy galleries. It's definately worth it to check out the Matt & Trey gallery. I've cropped and tweaked the color on the excellent Indian/Pilgrim scans that sexy beast, Nobby, sent to us. Also, we decided to add a Miscellaneous gallery to house images that aren't photos but are interesting nonetheless.

Finally, while surfing the web last night, I found the mugshot of Yasmine Bleeth from her September 2001 arrest. I added it to the Yasmine Drug Story page for your viewing... er, pleasure. I had never seen this picture before. Now I see how dead on the portrayal of her in #511, The Entity really was.

We love beefy! He capped another video for us! It's Matt & Trey's appearance on the Tonight Show back when they were promoting "That's My Bush!" Enjoy!

News from South Park Studios! "We will be doing a lot of shows on fart, poop, and people getting beaten up".
Launching the second half of the seventh series, episode 708 entitled "South Park is gay!" has the whole town joining the hip new homosexual craze. Suddenly, it's cool to be gay! Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny go head to head with the other kids to see who can be the "gayest," while Mr. Garrison responds with, "If straight people are gonna steal our culture, then us REAL gays are just gonna have to step it up a notch!"

Later on in the season, the boys take on Rob Reiner and the anti-smoking hysteria and explore the issue of the elderly and their apparent vendetta against farmer's markets.
There is little to no MNT news right now. I could only dig up this article from the Oregon State Daily Barometer Online which talks about the Douche episode.

But, since you're all just a bunch of gossip-mongers, I can tell you that Trey has shed some pounds and Matt has gotten even buffer. That is all, good day.
